Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan in West Virginia
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan in West Virginia Is available from several insurance companies, including major carriers like Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and United Healthcare. When shopping for a Medicare supplement, be sure to get quotes from all carriers, though, because your state offers quite a few smaller carriers that, nonetheless, have A ratings.
Medicare Supplements in West Virginia include the ten standardized plans available in many other states. Choosing a Medicare supplement involves comparing quotes from dozens of carriers. Fortunately, at Songer Benefits, we make that process easy for you by providing you with a side-by-side comparison of current rates and rate histories, which can be crucial in choosing a company with reasonable annual rate increases that won’t break your bank.
If you are under 65 on Medicare in West Virginia, you will find that Medigap companies do not have to offer plans to you. They can charge significantly higher rates if they choose, making Medicare Advantage plans in West Virginia a great solution until you reach age 65. More on that below.
West Virginia Medigap Plan F & Plan G
Medigap Plan F and Plan G are the two most comprehensive Medigap plans in West Virginia. The only difference between Plan F and Plan G is that Plan F covers the Part B annual deductible, while Plan G does not. After January 1, 2020, Plan F will only be available to people who turned 65 in 2019 or earlier.
With Plan G, you pay your own Part B deductible, which functions just like Plan F, for the rest of the year. Plan G will cover your doctor visit coinsurance and copays, durable medical equipment coinsurance, lab work, and much more. Plan G even includes a foreign travel emergency benefit.
Medicare Part D
Part D is the drug coverage part of Medicare. Without a Part D plan, you wouldn’t have any drug benefits. You can enroll in either a stand-alone Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage plan with a Part D plan. No Medigap plan has drug benefits. Therefore, if you enroll in a Medigap plan, you will need a stand-alone Part D plan to go along with it.
West Virginia Medicare Advantage
Some Medicare beneficiaries prefer a private healthcare plan with lower premiums upfront but more pay-as-you-go expenses on the back end. You might consider a private Medicare HMO or PPO if this sounds like you.
Medicare Advantage plans in West Virginia are available from several providers. Our agency can search the provider directory before you enroll to make sure you choose a plan that your doctors will accept. Remember that though these plans are cheaper, you must use the plan’s network.
Medicare Advantage plans are very different from Medigap plans. For example, Medicare Advantage plans have doctor networks, copays, and coinsurance as you use the plan, low to no premiums, built-in Part D usually, and extra benefits. Medigap plans have no network, little to no copays on the backend, moderate to high premiums, no built-in Part D, and little to no extra benefits.
